WHO ARE THE TRUE GODS O’ ROCK ?

We all have our own musical ideas, influences and favourite performers which is great and personal to each of us. Defining factors which bring us to conclusions are usually strongly influenced by when and where we live and possibly parental influence.

However, Rock-n-roll as we know it today was forged in the crucible of innovation and passion by a group of extraordinary musicians during the early part of the 20th century in America. Its genre emerged as a blend of various musical styles, all of which played a pivotal role in shaping both the sound and spirit of what would eventually become a global phenomenon. At the heart of this transformation which was almost totally based in the USA were trailblazing figures whose groundbreaking work set the stage for what was to follow and evolve.

Among the pioneering contributors were towering figures like Lead Belly whose haunting blues-infused folk songs laid the foundation for the genre's raw emotional depth. Robert Johnson often regarded as the "King of the Delta Blues," left an indelible mark with his mystical guitar playing and storytelling which influenced generations of rock musicians. Willie Dixon the powerhouse bassist and songwriter provided the gritty backbone for many early blues and  rock songs, while country and western's original bad boy of music Hank Williams was instrumental in blending honky-tonk and country influences into the rock-n-roll mix.

Legends like Muddy Waters with his electrified blues sound helped shape the Chicago blues scene which would go on to profoundly influence rock-n-roll. Bessie Smith the "Empress of the Blues" brought an unparalleled vocal power and emotional intensity to the stage, laying the groundwork for many future rock vocalists. B.B. King with his expressive guitar playing and unmistakable voice became one of the genre's most beloved figures. Roy Brown a dynamic vocalist and Big Joe Turner known for his swinging rhythm and boogie-woogie energy were instrumental in infusing rock-n-roll with a high-octane infectious rhythm.

But perhaps the definitive moment in rock-n-roll history is most famously credited to Roy Brown, an encyclopedia salesman who in 1947 wrote and recorded the seminal song "Good Rocking Tonight." This track not only captured the essence of what rock 'n' roll was to become but also transformed the genre into an anthem for rebellious youth and a symbol of cultural liberation. Brown's timeless anthem with its electrifying energy and irresistible rhythm helped to ignite the fire of rock-n-roll, thus making it a central part of the American cultural landscape and setting the stage for the global revolution that would follow to this day.
